Hope House Shelter exists to provide immediate safety, dignity, and a pathway to stable housing for every person experiencing homelessness in King County. We believe that shelter is a human right, and that with the right support, every individual and family can find their way home.
Founded in 1987 by a coalition of local faith communities and neighborhood associations, Hope House began as a 20-cot warming center operating out of a church basement. Over nearly four decades, we have grown into a full-service 120-bed emergency shelter with year-round operations, a professional case management team, and partnerships with more than 40 housing and service providers across the greater Seattle area.
In 2019, we opened our Transitional Living Program, providing furnished studio apartments and intensive case management to 30 individuals per year as they work toward permanent housing. To date, we have helped more than 8,000 people find stable places to live.
Hope House employs 45 full-time staff including licensed social workers, certified peer specialists, overnight shelter monitors, a licensed nurse on staff three days per week, and a dedicated housing navigator team. We are supplemented by more than 200 trained volunteers each year.
Hope House is accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and is a member of the King County Continuum of Care. Our programs are funded through a combination of federal HUD grants, King County DCHS contracts, City of Seattle Human Services funding, and generous private donations from the community.
