The Veterans Resource Center Disability Benefits Unit was established in 2015 to address a gap in services: many veterans experiencing housing instability had unrecognized or underrated service-connected disabilities, leaving significant VA benefits unclaimed. By integrating disability benefits counseling with housing services, we ensure veterans receive the full financial support they have earned.
A veteran's VA disability rating directly affects eligibility for our transitional housing program. Veterans with a combined rating of 30% or higher receive priority placement. Veterans at 70% or higher qualify for our long-term supportive housing with case management. Our intake process collects disability rating information upfront for veterans with honorable or general discharge status so we can assign the correct housing tier immediately.
This is why our intake form requires the disability rating for eligible veterans — it is not optional demographic data but a program eligibility criterion that determines which services and housing units are available to you.
Our team includes three VA-accredited Claims Agents and five National Service Officers affiliated with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the American Legion. All VSO services are provided at no cost to veterans.
